How Often Should an Oxygen Concentrator Be Cleaned? Your Maintenance Quick Guide!

Oxygen concentrator

The oxygen concentrator in your home is a vital partner in safeguarding your family's respiratory health, but many users frequently wonder: "How often should an oxygen concentrator be cleaned?" Today, Faciox UPOC has compiled a complete maintenance quick guide for you, allowing you to easily grasp the critical timing for oxygen concentrator cleaning and ensure the long-term stable operation of the equipment.

Why Is Oxygen Concentrator Cleaning So Important?

An oxygen concentrator uses core components like filters and molecular sieves to separate nitrogen from oxygen in the air, providing high-concentration oxygen. Long-term use of the concentrator can lead to the gradual accumulation of scale and dirt. If cleaning is neglected, the risk of machine malfunction increases, which can subsequently affect the overall condition and lifespan of the molecular sieve. Therefore, regular cleaning is not only necessary to extend the concentrator's service life but is also an essential step to ensure the patient receives safe, high-quality oxygen.

Oxygen Concentrator Parts Cleaning Frequency Guide!

Different components have different maintenance instructions. Here is a complete table of cleaning items:
Item Cleaning Frequency
Cleaning the Entire Casing Once or twice a month, with the power disconnected, wipe the exterior of the machine with a clean, soft, damp towel dipped in a small amount of detergent, and then wipe it dry with a dry towel.
Cleaning the Humidifier Bottle The humidifier bottle should be disassembled and washed using detergent and room-temperature water, or using a disinfectant solution made of white vinegar and water mixed at a 1:3 ratio. Soak the disassembled bottle in this solution for 30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with clean water and wipe the humidifier bottle dry.
Cleaning the Air Intake Filter Cotton (External Filter) Remove the filter cotton from the back of the main casing, wash it with detergent, and rinse it thoroughly with clean water. Remove excess moisture, let it air dry naturally, and only re-install it once completely dry. Do not re-install the filter cotton if it is not completely dry. Cleaning the air intake filter cotton is an important part of routine oxygen concentrator maintenance, and we recommend cleaning it at least twice a month.

Incorrect Oxygen Concentrator Maintenance Practices That Must Be Avoided

❌ Using Strong Detergents / Alcohol: This will cause damage to the machine itself. Use warm water and neutral detergents instead.

❌ Reinstalling Filters Before They Are Completely Dry: Moisture can cause the molecular sieves to become damp and ineffective. Filters must be completely air-dried before being reinstalled.
❌ Neglecting Humidifier Bottle Cleaning: Bacteria and scale can directly enter the respiratory tract. Water should be changed daily, and the bottle should be disinfected weekly.

Small Tips for Extending the Lifespan of Your Oxygen Concentrator

1. The oxygen concentrator should be placed in a well-ventilated area, maintaining a distance of at least 15 cm from surrounding obstacles. Avoid direct sunlight and high-temperature or humid environments. Additionally, smoking and open flames are prohibited near the machine.

2. For the humidifier bottle, use distilled water or room-temperature boiled water. Do not use untreated tap water directly.
If you notice that the oxygen output is noticeably cut off, the machine's operating noise has become abnormally loud, the machine fails to turn on, or an alert light illuminates, you should immediately contact the Faciox UPOC team for diagnosis and service.
By mastering the correct frequency and methods for cleaning your oxygen concentrator, you can easily maintain the equipment's optimal condition. Proper maintenance not only extends the service life of the concentrator but also ensures that you and your family receive a safe, stable, and high-quality oxygen supply.
